Our featured trainers in the last edition completed a running double at Canni Creek; Reg Manning, 17 time winner of the Hinnomunjie Cup won with Coureuse Controls and Mountain Cattlemen’s Cup, ladies’ division winner, Shea Reynolds won with Hairini Tycoon. Jackson and Danni Pallot finally broke through with Alabama Man in a 2200 maiden at Sale. The son of Melbourne Cup winner, Americain looks to have a bright staying future as he matures and his races increase in distance. He is a strong, athletic three year old with a bright future. Tim Bull put together a syndicate of locals called Bully’s Boys Syndicate and took a share in the imported Irish horse, King Of Dreams with leading trainer Darren Weir. The sky looks the limit for this galloper, having won his first three starts in Australia, the last win being at Flemington. Owned by Tim, Greg Scott, Barry Walker and others remaining anonymous at this stage (obviously haven’t told their wives), King Of Dreams could be a star of the future. It’s a long way from home, but the Wy Yung syndicate would be celebrating the win of Sacred Edge at Newcastle. He is in the capable hands of ‘young gun’ Bairnsdale trainer, Clare Cunningham, now based at Warwick Farm. Ridden by Clare’s partner, group one winning jockey Jason Collett, Sacred Edge was impressive in his second victory. Clare has her stable firing with a string of wins recently including Global Rocket, Cradle Mountain, Elkano and Eldorado Mine. The star of the team has been Just Shine, winning at Canterbury and then breaking through for Clare’s first Saturday win at Royal Randwick. Not so lucky was the Richard Dyson part owned Aloisia in the Australian Guineas. Winner of the 1000 Guineas and Moonee Valley Vase in the Spring, the signs were ominous when she dumped jockey, Mark Zahra in the mounting yard. No harm done there fortunately with Mark executing a perfect landing on both feet. The star filly was moving into the race comfortably on the home turn when Regan Bayliss took a sharp turn left and knocked her out of the race. Regan was suspended for 24 meetings for his trouble. To the filly’s credit she picked herself up and still passed four horses in the run home. She is a definite watch when stepping up to 2000m and no doubt she will be aimed at the AJC Oaks. The next feature event on THE Bairnsdale Racing Club was established in 1862 and is located within East Gippsland which is well renowned for its beautiful coastline, extensive lakes and river system and its famous high country of which is all on the door step of the Bairnsdale Racing Club. If heading to a race meeting at Bairnsdale, why not take the opportunity to explore East Gippsland for a day or two and enjoy some of what the region has to offer. The Bairnsdale Racing Club is a Thoroughbred Racing and Training Venue that has been allocated six race meetings for the 2017/18 racing season with upcoming race days being the Lakes Entrance Cup, Super Sports Day held on April 21 and the Lindenow Cup held on June 13. In addition to great days of racing and social action, the racecourse is used six days a week, 52 weeks of the year by a dedicated group of 12 trainers who have approximately 56 horses in work. Outside of race day the club also conducts approximately 40 to 50 other events and functions ranging from motor expo’s, caravan shows and within their function centre they are regularly holding birthday parties, weddings functions, engagement parties, wakes, business meetings and conferences. The Bairnsdale Racing Club is a “not-for-profit” organisation which is overseen by a dedicated volunteer Committee. The Club is also fortunate to have a number of partners and sponsors who contribute passionately and financially to the Club and it’s via this support that they are able to ensure the ongoing sustainability and continued development of the Bairnsdale Racing Club and Thoroughbred Racing in East Gippsland.
